Conundrum

Maybe it's more of a Catch 22.

This has nothing to to do with anything.
I was thinking about my writing style and who my audience was (or more aptly, potential audience) and it made me think about this. I like to post about indie games. My blog is riddled with posts about them. But here's the thing, if you're into indie games, then you probably already have another source for the same information. If you're not into indie games, then you probably will see all this wacky stuff and want to leave.

But I guess this won't change anything. Just goes to show I put too much thought and not enough effort into you, blog.

Paranormal Wacktivity

While I'm waiting for the latest Grandma's Virginity Podcast to finish downloading, I thought I would share a humorous video by Mike Diva. He made the video for MSI's song Mark David Chapman.

Here.

This Mike Diva guy just started a mission to make a new video every other monday. Mike Mondays! His last two were pretty good too.

Humble Indie Bundle 2

Last spring there was an amazing deal on a handful of indie games called The Humble Indie Bundle. You could pay whatever you wanted and then split up the money between two great charities and the game developers. It was great. I got World of Goo for like five bucks.

And now they're doing it again!

As  you can see from the picture above, all the games are DRM free and are compatable with Mac, PC, and Linux. The three games from this years offering that I've already played have been great fun. It's just too good of a deal to refuse! If you are into games that are made for games sake, get this bundle. If you support online civil liberties and toys for sick kids, get this bundle.

Go check it out.

A post about posting

I'm going to attempt to loosen my standards for posts on this blog. I'll still have longer, in depth posts with pictures, hyperlinks, and whatnot, but I will also have what I like to call "lazy posts." I've always been somewhat opposed to these kind of posts, but ultimately I think they will help with the frequency of posting and add content. So I apologize in advance for these subpar posts.

Good Games... Cheap!

Oh, hi, I didn't see you there. Well now that you're here, I might as well tell you about two great games that are available super cheap on Steam.

First we have my current obsession (besides Minecraft), Evil Genius, by the now defunct Elixir Studios. The gameplay is kind of hard to describe. It's like The Sims times James Bond plus world domination. In fact, it was billed as "The World Domination Simulator." You play as an evil genius (surprise!) attempting to carve out a secret lair on an undisclosed island, all while plotting your plans to take over the world and trying not to get caught. It has a great balance of strategy, humor, and leisurely gameplay. It was made back in 2004 so it will probably run on your computer with ease. At $2.50 there's not much of a reason not to get this game if it seems remotely interesting.

Then we have Amnesia: The Dark Desent, a fantastic first person-adventure/horror game, by indie developer Frictional Games. It is probably the scariest game I've played in the last decade; definitely scarier than any horror film I've seen since I was a kid. It starts off a bit slow and the story occasionally bores, but it is absolutely worth the ten bucks they are currently charging for it. There's some puzzles, physics, and stealth involved, but no combat, which is absolutely fine for this game. There's a preview after the jump.

OnLive Review

After mild anticipation and much skepticism, the OnLive video gaming service is actually out. Having thought it was going to go the way of the Phantom, I was surprised and a little excited to hear that I could finally try it out.

For those who aren't familiar with OnLive, it is a service where you can buy and/or rent access to video games, which run on OnLive's hardware, then streamed over the internet to your computer. You don't have to download gigabytes worth of data before you can play, or stay up to date on the most bleeding edge graphics card just to enjoy the next big game. There's even a set top box available so you can play on your TV.

Here is my review:

Super Tofu Boy sucks

I haven't gotten around to blogging about insanely awesome indie platformer/masochism simulator Super Meat Boy, which is unfortunate, because it came out on Xbox Live Arcade like a month ago. So much for being timely and up to date. It did come out for PC recently, so it's not completely old! Either way, this isn't about SMB, this is about something much more lame.

Look's like PETA just released a parody of SMB, just two hours ago. It plays a lot like the SMB prototype that inspired the SMB we all know and love today. Needless to say, it isn't very fun, but it is worth laughing at. It has more of a story than SMB, which is written terribly. It's mostly about Bandage Girl dumping Meat Boy, "a vengeful, bloody cube of rotting animal flesh," for Tofu Boy after realizing how terrible meat is. "Once Bandage Girl slept with Tofu Boy and saw all that he had to offer, it was bye-bye beef, hello bean curd. Enraged by his loss and lack of ability to compete with the badass that is Tofu Boy, Meat Boy snapped and kidnapped Bandage Girl—because if he can't have her, no one will."

Just terrible. You can check out the official site, or play it beneath the jump.
